Siva Rama Krishna Chaithanya Moorthy
This rare idol with 6 hands symbolizing Siva, Rama & Krishna is a unique asset to Chittur Thekkegramam. The idol has six hands where two hands carry the stick and ‘kamandala’-denoting Śiva, two hands carry the bow and arrow-denoting Rāma and two hands playing flute-denoting Krishņa.
During 1900s, the people in Thekkegramam were beginning to realize the effectiveness of Bhakthi and took to namasankeerthanam. Sri.AnanthanarayananaIyer, residing in Single street in Thekkegramam, started Bhajans in a room in his house. Another good soul, Sri SarappuSivaramakrishnaIyer joined him in this noble effort of namasankeerthanam. One of them had a dream where he saw an idol with six hands and was ordained to install such an idol in the place where the bhajans were being conducted. Sri SarappuSivaramakrishnaIyer set out in search of such an idol, travelled far and wide and finally came across such an idol in Puri (Orissa). After getting himself convinced that this was what he was looking for, arranged immediately to have a replica made in Pnchaloha alloy and brought it to Thekkegramam, Chittur. It was then installed in the house of Sri AnanthaNarayanaIyer’s house in 1905. By that time, bhajans became more popular with many villagers participating and the place found insufficient to accommodate them all. The organizers had to look out for a more spacious place. At that time, a Ghanapadigal, who was staying with his family in a house right behind the Perumal temple (now Sri Ramaswamytemple) was experiencing calamities and unpleasant occurings both mental and physical – the children born to the couple were dumb and deaf. After deep deliberations, they consulted an astrologer who advised that since the house is just behind the Perumal Temple, who is very powerful, it is better they change their residence which will solve all their problems. Sri SarappuSivaramakrishnaIyer came forward to help them. After finding an alternate accommodation for them, he bought the house and converted into the present bhajanamadom. The Siva Rama Krishna chaithanya Moorthy idol was then shifted to the bhajamadom and the entire place has become like an energy center. The bhajanamadom has been the store house of NamaSankeerthanam. Great bhagavathas, who have conducted bhajana here include, PudukottaiGopalakrishnabhagavathar, Sanjeevibhagavathar, Swami Abedananda, Needamangalam Krishnamoorthy bhagavathar, Srinivasa Rajagopalachar, Krishna Premiswamigal, T.S.Narayanasastry to name a few.
Gokulashtami is being celebrated that will include Laksharchana, Divyanamam&Radhakalyanam.
