Her early tutoring was under Kotayi Srinivasan Bhagavathar. She then went on to hone her skills under Baby Mami. She went on to widen her repertoire and pick up the finer points Of music under the tutelage of Rama Subramanian, and Setalapathy Balasubramaniam both direct disciples of Papanasam Sivan. Her art was further honed by Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Prince Rama Varma, Sudha Raghunathan, Chitra Veen Ravikiran and Badrinarayanan (disciple of Sri D K Jayaraman), This amalgamation of musical styles has resulted in In her adopting a distinct interpretation to musical pieces.
