Madhvacharya was born on Vijayadasami day to Madhyageha Bhatta and Vedavathi of Pajaka village near Udupi. He was named Vasudeva. Many events in his infancy indicated his divinity. As a young boy, he excelled in sports and was very emphatic about physical training. He was well versed in the Vedas, and astounded his teachers by giving sermons on the scriptures. His profound knowledge on all texts earned him the name Purnaprajna. He advocated the 'Dvaita' school of thought. He has authored thirty-seven works including the 'Dvadasastotra', which are devotional hymns in praise of God. The most outstanding event of his life was the founding of the Sri Krishna temple and the eight Mathas at Udupi.
